COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT FOR ADULTS

We offer specialist cognitive assessments for adults in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas. A cognitive assessment provides a structured and evidence-based understanding of how you think, learn, and process information. This may include attention, memory, processing speed, and executive functioning (such as planning, organisation, and problem-solving). At The Lotus Psychology Practice, we offer comprehensive cognitive assessments for adults to support understanding, formulation, and tailored recommendations.

Who Can Benefit from a Cognitive Assessment?

A comprehensive cognitive assessment is conducted by a Clinical Psychologist with specialist experience in Intellectual Disabilities and Neuropsychology. An assessment includes standardised and evidence-based assessment of a persons overall IQ, verbal and visual spatial skills, processing speed, memory, academic ability, attention and executive functioning. The aim of the assessment is to:

  • understand your cognitive profile: strengths and weaknesses;

  • inform how they can be best supported at university, work or at home; and

  • identify global intellectual disability (previously referred to as learning disability) or specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia or dyscalculia.

When Might A Cognitive Assessment Be Helpful?

A cognitive assessment may be useful if you are experiencing:

  • difficulties with attention or concentration

  • memory concerns (short-term or working memory)

  • reduced mental clarity or “brain fog”

  • difficulties with organisation or planning

  • changes in cognitive functioning over time

  • challenges related to work performance or daily functioning

It may also be helpful where there is a need to better understand cognitive strengths and weaknesses in the context of broader neurological, health, psychological or neurodevelopmental presentations.

Prior to the assessment, we will send you questionnaire measures and gather information on your current concerns. We will request information from any medical professionals or reports. The cognitive assessment is conducted in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire across 3-4 hours, with as many breaks as you may need.

Following assessment a detailed and individualised report is written, with specific recommendations and strategies.

A feedback session is arranged to discuss the findings of the report.
