Dr Emma Hull

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy), BSc. (Hons) Psychology with a Professional Placement Year

HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and BPS (British Psychological Society) registered Clinical Psychologist

Dr Emma Hull is a Clinical Psychologist and associate at the Lotus Psychology Practice with over 8 years experience providing evidence-based therapy to adults, adolescents and families presenting with a wide range of mental health difficulties. After her undergraduate degree in Psychology, Emma worked in a range of child and adolescent mental health services and paediatric health settings, before completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at the University of East London.

Alongside private practice, Emma currently works for the NHS in an specialist adolescent service, offering holistic therapeutic support to young people experiencing complex mental health difficulties, including periods of intense crisis, suicidality or self-harm.

In addition to her interest and experience working with children and young people, Emma has also worked with a diverse range of adults, and has particular interest in working with people who may feel low in mood and stuck in life, those managing anxiety related difficulties such as generalised anxiety and OCD, those with difficult or traumatic past experiences, and those experiencing work related stress or burnout.

In sessions, Emma aims to create a warm, non-judgemental, and collaborative space where clients can slow down, make sense of their feelings, and develop more flexible ways of responding to their internal and external experiences, all guided by their unique therapy goals.

Emma works in a flexible and trauma-sensitive way, drawing on a range of evidence- based models, ensuring therapy is tailored to individual needs. She has a particular interest in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and draws on this heavily in her work, as well as other well-established models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Emma is also currently completing her training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapeutic approach which supports people to process distressing or traumatic experiences in a safe and structured way.

Although much of the therapy that Emma offers is one-on-one, she recognises the vital role of relationships. She draws on foundational level training in Systemic Family Therapy to consider how clients distress is both impacted by, and impacts, their wider social contexts.

Emma offers both in person and online sessions. In person sessions are held at the Lotus Psychology Practice therapy rooms in Berkhamsted.
