COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT
We offer specialist cognitive assessments for children and young people in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas.
Who Can Benefit from a Cognitive Assessment
A comprehensive cognitive assessment is conducted by a Clinical Psychologist or Educational Psychologist. An assessment includes standardised and evidence-based assessment of a young persons overall IQ, verbal and visual spatial skills, processing speed, memory, academic ability, attention and executive functioning. The aim of the assessment is to:
-
understand your child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses;
-
inform how they can be best supported in school; and
-
identify global intellectual disability (previously referred to as learning disability) or specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia or dyscalculia.
With the benefit of a comprehensive background developmental history and parent/teacher reports, the results of a cognitive assessment can provide an individualised learning plan and recommendations for how best to support your child in the classroom.

Prior to the assessment, we will send you parent questionnaire measures and gather informaiton on your current concerns. We will request information from your child's school. The cognitive assessment is conducted in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire across 3-4 hours, with as many breaks as your child may need.
Following assessment a detailed and individualised report is written, with specific recommendations and strategies in collaboration with schools.
